The Case for Walkability: Health, Economic Development and Sustainability
An Exploration of the Transportation Ecosystem
Tuesday September 19th, 8:15a-12:30pm
Nichols Building, 189 Exchange Street, Bangor
Join us at a half day forum in Downtown Bangor examining how Maine towns and cities can embrace the benefits of walkable communities.
This forum is designed to inspire and prepare communities to diversity modes of transportation as a way to boost health, economic development, and sustainability for citizens, businesses, and institutions. Explore the many creative ways, from infrastructure to events, that communities can develop vibrant villages and downtowns as well as artful connections to open spaces outside of the city center.
The day opens with a light breakfast and networking time in the newly renovated Nichols Building (be the first to see the new space!). The plenary session provides an evidence-based overview of why walkability matters followed by four concurrent break-out sessions providing success stories and replicable models presented by local leaders. All sessions are nestled in downtown Bangor venues including the new Bangor Symphony Orchestra practice space in the Nichols Building, Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, CoeSpace, and First National Bank.
