Deer Isle Family Fun Ride
July 31, 2022 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm
St. Brendan the Navigator Church and Healthy Island Project are sponsoring a free community bike ride on Sunday afternoon, July 31, from St. Brendan’s to Reach Beach. This family ride is for adults and children, ages 8 and older, who can ride for about 30 minutes at a time. The 4.3-mile ride, each way, will be led by Frances Barbour, a Certified US Cycling Instructor (LCI#1671) and a member of St. Brendan’s. She will provide tips for group riding best practices and basic Smart Cycling techniques.
Check-in for the ride is 12:00 noon at St. Brendan the Navigator Church at 627 North Deer Isle Road. There is no cost to participate. The ride will start at 12:30 p.m. after registration and a bicycle check. There will be a rest stop at Reach Beach, so bring water and a snack. Some riders may prefer to arrange personal transportation to meet them at Reach Beach for a one-way ride. Return bicyclists should be back at the church before 3 p.m.
Safety and fun go together! Bicycle helmets are required, and we ask that riders check their bikes in advance for properly inflated tires, operable front and rear brakes, and working chain and gears. If your bike needs some light maintenance, we welcome you to come to the church around 11:30 a.m., as we will have people on hand who know bicycles well and can help.
Be prepared for a fun time! If rain is forecasted after 11 a.m., the ride will be cancelled. For more information, please contact Frances Barbour: (415) 577-4601.
