Bio:
Congressman Earl Blumenauer (Oregon, District 3) has represented his native community of Portland, Oregon, in public office for over 40 years. He was a leader in transportation and land-use policy in the state legislature and Multnomah County, and as Portland City Commissioner helped make the city the vibrant urban center and bicycling Mecca it is today. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996, Blumenauer served on the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee before moving to the Ways & Means Committee in 2007. Shortly after arriving in Washington, Blumenauer founded the Congressional Bike Caucus, a bipartisan, “bike-partisan,” group of members of Congress dedicated to advancing biking and walking in federal policy. Blumenauer is known as the chief champion in Congress for biking and livable communities, and has been a leading voice in the conversation about transportation funding. Earlier this year, Congressman Blumenauer and Bike Caucus co-chair Vern Buchanan of Florida, introduced the Vision Zero Act, which would create a grant program for communities to plan and implement strategies to eliminate transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries.
