Adult Education

Presentations at Workplaces and Community Events

Our instructors can provide interactive presentations about bicycle and pedestrian safety plus best practices for motorists at community events, meetings, conferences, and luncheons. These presentations can also include or focus predominantly on bike law.

Fix-a-Bike

Be your own mechanic! You provide the audience and a space to work, we’ll provide the tools and instruction. Learn how to maintain your bike, fix a flat, pump up a tire, change a chain or cable, make shifting adjustments, and more in a hands-on learning experience. These 2-hour long workshops can take place outdoors, weather permitting.

Urban Riding Classes

Develop confidence and competence while recreating or commuting alongside other traffic. Our on-road instruction to individuals or groups improves technical riding skills and teaches proper positioning and etiquette. We have worked with clubs, committees, and businesses to promote bicycling as a way to exercise, commute, and have fun! Click here to learn more.

Off-Road Bicycle Education

Similar to our urban riding classes, but for mountain bikes! As part of a small instructor-led group, you’ll learn about correct body position on the bike, how to use your brakes effectively, how to navigate roots and rocks, and the answers to all your MTB questions. These classes are aimed at beginner to intermediate riding levels. Click here to learn more.

Upcoming Events › Education Events

The Bicycle Coalition of Maine stays busy with events all year round to connect with as many pedestrians and people on bikes as possible in a variety of ways. We seek to educate adults and children about bike/ped safety through presentations and courses, host interactive demonstrations that advocate for improvements to bike/ped infrastructure, provide valet bike parking at local events, and organize gatherings and group rides to raise awareness and enthusiasm about our mission.

The event calendar below lists our upcoming events and those hosted by our partners and supporters. Check it out, and join us as we strive to make Maine better for biking and walking!
