A pedestrian was killed in a motor vehicle crash on Monday night on Route 4 near Trask Road in North Turner.
Dillon Jordan, 33, was struck and killed around 7 p.m. by Sandra Shirley, 64, of Auburn, who was operating a 2006 Ford Freestyle. Jordan died at the scene. Shirley was not injured.
This marks the seventh pedestrian fatality in Maine this year.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office says the preliminary investigation suggests Jordan was walking in the middle of the northbound travel lane when he was struck in an area that has no street lights.
“Our hearts go out to the victim’s family,” said Bicycle Coalition of Maine Assistant Director Jim Tassé, who cautions drivers to be aware of their surroundings and keep their focus on the road, especially as the days are getting shorter.
Pedestrians should remember to dress brightly, wear reflective clothing, and always walk facing traffic, the Coalition advises.
