The Bicycle Coalition of Maine will celebrate the eighth annual BikeMaine Route Reveal and Kickoff Party on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the University of Maine’s Wells Conference Center in Orono.
The event is free, open to the public, and will feature the moment all 2020 BikeMaine riders have been waiting for since registration opened in September 2019: the announcement of the host communities for BikeMaine 2020: Katahdin Frontier.
Since the fully supported, week-long bicycle event started in 2013, BikeMaine has brought riders through seven different and diverse regions of Maine. During that time, BikeMaine’s annual economic impact has grown from $235,000 to $906,000, and it has had a positive impact on communities from Caribou to Kennebunk.
“We are thrilled to bring BikeMaine through the Katahdin Region,” says Ride Director Will Elting. “It is a wild and iconic part of Maine, and I can’t wait for riders to experience it.”
This year, the Kickoff Party will feature a 5 p.m. social hour with hors d’oeuvres and refreshments provided by Maine Beer Company, presentations by leaders in Maine’s recreation and tourism industries at 6 p.m., the announcement of the BikeMaine 2020 host communities at 6:30 p.m., followed by an opportunity to mingle with cycling enthusiasts from across the state of Maine.
“The Kickoff Party always has such a celebratory feel, as it marks the start of the countdown to the ride… which is 217 days away, but who’s counting?” Elting added.
For riders and BikeMaine enthusiasts unable to attend, the route reveal will be broadcast via Facebook Live—follow the BCM: @ride.bikemaine!
