Event to be held at the Capitol May 7
May 6, 2019 (AUGUSTA, Maine): On Tuesday, May 7, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition of Maine will be hosting “Bicycle and Walk Day at the Capitol.” Beginning at 7:30 a.m., this event will be held in the plaza between the Capitol and Cross Buildings, and will include brief comments from legislators and BPCM staff before groups head out for a walk near the statehouse or a bike ride down to Hallowell and back on the Kennebec River Trail.
Walking groups will enjoy guided “conditions audit” walks provided by BPCM staff. All guided walks and rides will return to the capitol by 9 a.m.
There will be bikes—including electric-assist bikes—for legislators and participants, but riders are welcome to bring their own bicycles to use.
The Coalition will have e-bikes available until about 1:30 p.m., so participants who don’t get to ride in the morning can still try out an electric-assist bicycle later in the day.
The education and advocacy non-profit urges all interested parties to attend what it says has now become a mid-session tradition, and to show their support for bike/ped safety legislation.
