Bicycle Coalition of Maine - Safety - Education - Access

Same Road, Same Rules, Same Rights: Share the RoadShare the Road

Since 1992, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine has been advocating for bicycling safety, education, and access. Our Share the Road Campaign aims to educate both bicyclists and motorists about safe, responsible driving. In the past 15 years we have succeeded in getting five pages added to the Maine Motorist Handbook, a bicycle safety question on the Maine Driver Exam, and have been training Driver Education Instructors about how to teach new drivers about sharing the road.

BCM spokesperson Eric Weinrich
Eric Weinrich, currently of the Portland Pirates, is the new spokesperson for the BCM. One of his first official duties was filming new Share the Road ads.

Building on the success of the Share The Road For A Healthy Maine campaign in 2004-2006, we now are focused on the next phase of work to make Maine roadways safer for both bicyclists and motorists. We have created new Share the Road video and audio spots featuring Eric Weinrich, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine's official spokesperson.

Thanks to collaborative efforts from WCSH6-TV in Portland and a mini-grant from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety, a two-week Share the Road ad campaign occurred in May 2007. In addition, we created six new Share the Road radio public service announcements that are being distributed statewide.

Watch and listen for the Bicycle Coalition of Maine's newest Share The Road media spots and remember to always drive responsibly -- whether in a car or on your bicycle.
