Safe Routes to School: How to Make Your Neighborhood Safer
There is probably room for your community to improve safety for biking and walking. Kids and parents can work with their schools, local groups, and local agencies to improve bicycling and walking in several ways:
- Do an inventory of biking and walking routes to school
- Review the "Walkability Checklist" on primary routes
- Review the "Bikeability Checklist" on primary routes
- Promote a Bicycle Safety Education Program in your school
- Promote practical and attractive bike parking at the school
- Be sure you and your neighbors drive safely (see Rules for Motorists & Bicyclists*)
