Maine Time Trial Series Announces 2008 Bicycle Races

The 2008 Peak Performance Maine Time Trial Series presented by Aegis Racing Bikes will feature 12 races from Presque Isle to Mount Agamenticus and Fryeburg to Bar Harbor.

Time trials are user-friendly races where participants start out 30 seconds apart with no drafting allowed. It's each bicyclist racing the clock. The race distances range from 12 to 20 miles.

A new race in Freeport, part of L.L. Bean's Bike Expo weekend, will kick off the series on May 4. Races will continue throughout the summer, until the state championship in Cumberland Center on September 28. Grand prizes will be awarded based on participation as well as performance.

This is the first year that Peak Performance Multisport of Portland will sponsor the series. Aegis, a returning sponsor, will donate prizes of a man's and woman's bike frame. Bank of America is an awards sponsor of the series. The Maine Time Trial Series is coordinated by the Bicycle Coalition of Maine and the Maine Time Trial Executive Committee with assistance from Catalyze-Events.com.

For more information about the series, click here or call (207) 623-4511.

Formed in 1992, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine is working to make Maine accessible and safe for all residents and visitors so they may comfortably and responsibly bicycle. The BCM also promotes bicycling for transportation, health, recreation and fun to enhance our communities, environment and economy.
