2008 BikeMaine Event Calendar Now Available for Free
Augusta, Maine - The Bicycle Coalition of Maine (BCM) has produced a free 2008 calendar listing Maine bicycle events in time for the spring biking season.
The BikeMaine Event Calendar includes 155 special events, 72 weekly rides throughout the state and a listing of Maine bike clubs, organizations and bicycle shops.
The calendar is available at bicycle shops, sports stores, by calling the BCM office (623-4511) or by writing info@BikeMaine.org. Event listings also may be found at BCM's Web site: www.BikeMaine.org.
"Whatever your interest or fitness level, the calendar has several rides for you," said John Balicki, the BCM's board president.
Rides vary in length from a five-mile Women's Ride for Heart Health in Freeport on June 1 to the 180-mile Trek Across Maine. The calendar includes Time Trial races, triathlons, trail work days and relaxed fun rides. Some rides cater to road bikes, others to mountain bikes.
"The rides featured in the '2008 BikeMaine Event Calendar' offer a great way to explore our beautiful state," said Balicki. Rides cover every part of Maine, from York Beach to Fort Fairfield.
Many of the rides support local charities. Special events include a solstice double century, a human-powered vehicle expo and the Flattest Bike Ride in Maine.
Advocating bicycling safety, education and access in Maine since 1992, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine is working to make Maine accessible and safe for all residents and visitors so they may comfortably and responsibly bicycle. The BCM also promotes bicycling for transportation, health, recreation and fun to enhance our communities, environment and economy.
