Seventh Annual Women's Ride for Heart Health Planned for Freeport

Freeport, Maine - The Bicycle Coalition of Maine (BCM) will sponsor the seventh annual Women's Ride for Heart Health on Sunday, June 1 at 9 a.m. at L.L. Bean's Casco Conference Center on Casco Street in Freeport.

The ride is suited for all ages and fitness levels, with rides of five, 10 and 25 miles. Free yoga, massage therapy, nutrition education presentations and medical screenings will be available to participants.

The entry fee for the all-women's ride is $20, with proceeds benefiting BCM's education mission of teaching bike safety to more than 15,000 Maine school children each year. Major sponsors include Freeport Comfort Suites, the Maine Women's Fund, and VBT Bicycling Vacations. For more information or to pre-register, go to www.BikeMaine.org or call (207) 623-4511.

Heart disease is the number one killer of Maine women. Women can improve their health by adding regular exercise such as bicycling, quitting smoking, eating a heart-healthy diet and making other changes in lifestyle. The Women's Ride for Heart Health offers a great opportunity to rediscover the benefits and fun of bicycling.

Formed in 1992, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine is working to make Maine accessible and safe for all residents and visitors so they may comfortably and responsibly bicycle. The BCM also promotes bicycling for transportation, health, recreation and fun to enhance our communities, environment and economy.
