PORTLAND (WGME) – Women across Maine hopped on their bikes and got peddling for the Bicycle Coalition of Maine’s Women’s Ride.
A total of 24 group rides were held in 20 cities across the state with hundreds of women participating.
The ride includes cis and transgender women, as well as non-binary individuals, of all skill levels and ride types.
Organizers say group bike riding can be intimidating to get into, especially for women.
Saturday’s ride was an opportunity for women to try it out alongside their peers.
“The women’s ride is really about encouraging and creating a safe and welcoming space for women, to be able to ride together, learn from each other, and feel like they’re welcome and included in any type of ride,” said Jean Sideris, executive director for the Bicycle Coalition of Maine.
The group ride was pay what you can, with a suggested donation of $35.
