ANOTHER GREAT VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY!
Pedal to the Common Ground Country Fair
Unity, Maine, September 19-21, 2008
Volunteers make it possible for the BCM to encourage people to Pedal to the Fair. If you've volunteered before, you know it's fun and very rewarding. It's a good chance to meet other cyclists, meet new friends, and visit with old friends. Each task is individual, but all together make up the VALET BIKE PARKING TEAM, for which the Bike Coalition is well known.
Please read over the tasks below, then click on YES, I WANT TO VOLUNTEER. Fill out the form and submit it. We'd love to hear from you. Thank you!
Free T-shirt, free meal with a 4-hour shift
Approximate shift times: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: 8am-12pm, 11am-3pm, and 2pm-6pm
VALET BIKE PARKING
Lookout: Keeps eyes on road for incoming riders and informs team, then leads cheering vigorously.
Greeter: Welcomes cyclists (after cheering) and directs them to receiving rack. Asks cyclists to step to table and complete short survey.
Surveyor: Greets cyclists (after cheering), offers survey, gives claim ticket marked with parking location on back. Gives "I biked to the Fair" sticker, directs to gate. "You get $1 off your admission if you show this sticker." Remind cyclist of closing time (6 on Friday and Saturday, and 5 on Sunday). If cyclists want to stay past closing, they should lock their bikes to metal rack in front.
Valet: Greets cyclist (after Cheering Wildly), tapes ticket to handlebars, parks bikes. Greets departing cyclist, takes claim ticket, asks bike color, fetches bike. "Thank you for pedaling to the Fair!"
Lead Valet: Greets team. Gathers team for introductions as often as practical when new volunteers arrive, does name tags, trains newcomers or asks qualified person to do it, does check-in of newly arriving volunteers, takes shift tickets, hands out volunteer T-shirts, meal tickets at shift end, leads, inspires, looks at big picture (recycling, breaks, rotation of jobs among team, hydration, track bike count, mileage), Cheering, gradual rack breakdown, and event end.
Walking Billboard: See the Fair and volunteer for the Bike Coalition all at the same time! Walk around the Fair, wearing the BCM billboard, which encourages people to visit us at the Rose Gate. Answer questions about cycling, the BCM, etc. If you can't answer some questions, direct them to our booth. Fun and easy. Two-hour shifts, flexible.
KIDS' AREA
Volunteers are needed for the kids' area. You can sign up for a particular task when you arrive. Adults supervise the signing of waivers so children can ride bikes around the track. They make sure kids are riding safely. Assist the lead volunteer in whatever needs to be done. If you like kids and bikes, this area is for you!
